Aug 13,  · Sloofin, the standard resolution improves things somewhat but definitely not to the degree you have experienced. I still system overload at 64 sample buffer with only 7 audio tracks and 3 instrument tracks when I record. This only happened once in a blue moon with Logic Pro X and El Capitan. Aug 14, · Question: Q: “LOGIC PRO X: Disk is too slow or System Overload. ()” This is the message that I was having since two weeks ago with my Logic 9. I updated two days ago to Logic X and I am still having the same problem Jul 30, · . Oct 13,  · It’s always annoying when you’re working on a track, but can’t continue to work on it because of a system overload. However, what’s more annoying is not know.

Last night and this morning the Machine was in the exact same state. Internet was working in both instances. I didn’t close anything from last night. Safari, Apple Mail, Outlook, iTunes, and other programs are open. No spikes today! Sounds good, if Yosemite was the culprit it would be likely the issue would be there all the time, sounds like the problem is related to some external influence. If you have all those program’s open alongside logic, you should set your OS X System Preferences Sound to use internal mic and speakers.

With logic Audio preferences set to use your dedicated sound device. This would mean mail notifications and iTunes will play through your onboard speakers leaving logic using your dedicated device and studio speakers.

I personally wouldn’t have other program’s open when working in logic. TextEdit maybe for notes, Activity Monitor for troubleshooting When working, just logic. LogicPro Atlas – very interesting. The OP has a system similar to mine. If this thing keeps happening I may try those kernel adjustments although that scares me. Dave – Thanks – You’re probably right about external influences.

Next time this starts to happen I will close everything else down – and reboot – and see if there is an impact. I do have other audio devices, but the System Overload problems are happening with the on-board audio. Haven’t tried my other devices yet since this started happening. As for the for the buss techniques – yes I’m using those strategies.

As for my large buffer size – I have run since the start, but couple weeks ago I had an issue with Superior Drummer 2. It was dropping notes all over the place. Tried increasing the Buffer to fix, but finally found that the Cache Mode was inadvertently turning on and Toontrack had a new version to comply with Yosemite.

I never changed the buffer back to I understand your concern. As hinted, I did’nt try it personnally. But that procedure is similar to one that was suggested by Metric Halo support team. Their support and products are notorious reference And makes me wonder how many other users problems today are because of audio devices and drivers. If you have logic using your sound device onboard and you get a notification or watch a YouTube video with Safari, audio focus is taken from logic for the external program.

Once you’re finished watching YouTube and press the spacebar to listen to logic you get cpu Spike as audio focus comes back to logic. I have notifications turned off, my desktop uses the onboard sound chip and logic has a dedicated audio device. I close logic before doing anything else.

I may occasionally open safari to read the forum here. Logic is closed when using iTunes, so if I want to listen to iTunes through my studio speakers, I press Option-Click on the speaker icon on the desktop menu bar and switch the audio device, when done switch it back. Most logic projects here are 48k if I had iTunes,Safari and notifications 44k constantly switching my sound device back and forth while logic is open, I’d expect problems.

Yes, the bus techniques are quite amazing, I’ve been Saving As larger projects here, changing one, and comparing the two versions. You can post now and register later. Posted December 7, Logic Pro X: System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time.
 More sharing options I have other audio devices, but since this started happening yesterday, I’ve been exclusively using my on-board audio on the MacBookPro.

And I’ve never had problems with this on-board audio. Posted December 9, I and my buddy have both shut off ‘Spotlight” and things are running smoother Obviously don’t be downloading something at the same time.. Look at you ‘processes window’ and see what is going on..

Sometimes you get a lot of ‘Safari web content”,, some of them are red and hung up, even after you quit Safari.. Force quit those.. Look in Start up folder, see if there is anything you don’t kneed there. More and more apps these days want to ‘phone home’.. I run Little snitch and shut off but the most critical..

MacPro 12 core – 64 gig of ram OSX Eric Cardenas Posted December 9, Logic uses Spotlight to find samples and other files so I would definitely not recommend turning off spotlight. Hi Eric: Thank you for that clarification Hi I’m getting the same thing and it just started happening yesterday. My computer is online all the time while recording and mixing, could this be a problem?

I’ll often reference mixes from online while mixing. I have Logic 9 on another laptop and that computer is online as well. I know that Logic will not allow you to operate 2 copies of the same software at the same time on different computers but I’d think Logic 9 on my laptop and X on my studio computer would be fine.

I also only use software that I’ve purchased so that’s not an issue. I am using UA plugs and Wave plugs as well. I’m currently waiting for a response from MOTU about that issue, could this have anything to do with it? Truth Hurts,,,but you will get better. Right now I have 3 hard drives connected one for Audio recording and 2 for Virtual instruments and their samples.

I haven’t upgraded to Yosemite because I haven’t researched if all of mu VI and Plugins are compatible yet, so I don’t want to move until I know there will be no downtime. Any help would be appreciated.

Posted December 10, I have a similar problem, and could use advice. I’m getting a “disc is too slow or system overload” error which just started after upgrading to Yosemite I know that was an idiotic move! Do any of the previous mentioned fixes apply to this issue?

I have the same problems since upgrading to Sometimes I get the message it’s hit and miss. But feel its all connected with Yosemite DaveRobinson Posted December 10, Give spotlight time to finish before starting work. I didn’t get this error message at all today. In reading through the posts my computer is online all the time too. Posted December 11, DaveRobinson Posted December 11, So I’m leaning against Waves CLA being the culprit these plugins have been out for 3 years now with no issues that I have been able to find through google I don’t know what to think now.

I don’t see a sound device in your profile? Atlas Posted December 11, There could be solution to this issue here If this thing keeps happening I may try those kernel adjustments although that scares me Dave – Thanks – You’re probably right about external influences. If this thing keeps happening I may try those kernel adjustments although that scares me In this app, you can see and close everything that is active on your computer, as well as filter it by RAM and CPU usage to help you find the most demanding processes.

This is one of the best, most effective solutions to the system overload problem, as MIDI instruments take much more processing power than audio tracks. Keep in mind though that this process is irreversible , so you might want to back up your project before doing it. Another great solution is increasing the buffer range.

The buffer range determines how your Mac handles all the processes coming at it. The only drawback is that a larger option such as samples will give you more latency when recording , but when just playing your project back and doing tasks such as composing and mixing , it will help Logic perform much better. Few people know this, but leaving your track inputs assigned while not recording may drain lots of processing power from your Mac.

It creates a snapshot of the region that is reversible so you can edit it later if you desire. A button with a snowflake will appear on the track : turn it on, press play, and Logic will start freezing its regions. Click on it again to undo. Using sends has lots of benefits. Apart from relieving the load on your CPU , it will make you able to send the same effect , such as a reverb or a delay , to multiple tracks thus improving your workflow and your mix coherence.

To insert a send on your track is simple: open the track inspecto r or the mixer view and then click on Sends. Expand the Bus section and you will see a list of the busses available: click on an empty one. You can insert the same send instance on multiple tracks. Even though Logic Pro lets you set your sample rate up to kHz , the smallest To change the sample rate of your project, click on File on the upper left corner of your screen, Project Settings, and then Audio.

There, you can expand the Sample Rate section and select your desired value. Alternatively, you could also store your projects on an external SSD and open them directly from it. This may unload your system a little bit.
